Day 1 Shenanigans
Got to the CVille airport and my bike box was 1.5 pounds (71.5#) over the 50-70# weight tier and they said it was going to cost $400! Bex and ripped the box open and the took out my hammock and hacky sack and got the package to 69.5#. the gate agent was very kind and hooked us up with packing tape to get the box reclosed.
was supposed to get into Ljubljana in the morning, but my flight from DC to Frankfort got delayed and i missed my connection. so I went from an hour layover to roughly 3 hours. not a big deal, I still got in around 2pm.
TSA had opened my bike box. But they packed it back OK. I rebuilt the bike and repacked outside the airport entrance. It's such a small peaceful airport.
it was only an 18 km ride to the festival. but put in the wrong address and got lost in the forest. I'm sure glad I put bigger tires on my bike because I was doing fire roads, then single track, then I was bushwacking 🫣 it was a sweaty muddy mess and doubled my trip time.
I got to the festival with dusk and was not looking forward to finding a camp spot in the dark
.
a man named Walter from Germany chatted with me about my trip while in the check in line and then I saw him setting up a car camping area and asked if I could join him. we ended up hanging out all night and had a good time dancing. He's from Bavaria..maybe on my route later.
I was a dummy and didn't go to an ATM yesterday for camp supplies store. everything at the festival is cash only. but no worries instopped and got supplies to cook my own dinner. but I forgot I didn't have fuel because he can't fly with it. so my dinner was just beer.
I took a wonderful cold outdoor shower at the festival.
When I was bushwhacking, I dropped a bag in the forest. It was my favorite hip pack that I bought in Japan. Inside it was my new psychedelic--cloth-pizza flow toy.
so I woke up at dawn after getting just a few hours of sleep to retrace my steps using my GPS history. found the bag! I needed to get back to a store and ATM regardless.
definitely going to need a hammock nap this afternoon.
Bruh... smh!! If your plan was to get all the $#@& out of the way on the first day, then well done! Glad you made it safely.
ReplyDeleteThings seem to be going just the right amount off plan! I just hope you are able to find a new hackysack.
